Can't be found, won't be found!

Sometimes, despite being very much in migration season, there are days when no matter how hard you look somehow the birds seem to be absent or impossible to find. Today was one of those days with blanks at Blueberry Farm, Maidwell, the Brampton Valley below Hanging Houghton and the usual spots at Lamport Hall appearing as birdless zones! Oh well there is always tomorrow!

Stanford Reservoir still showed off it's female Ferruginous Duck and Ruddy Shelduck with a supporting cast of four Green Sandpipers, two Common Sandpipers and a Common Snipe.

The adult Caspian Gull was at Naseby Reservoir before flying off south and waders there were five Common Snipe, three Green Sandpipers and four Common Sandpipers. An Osprey and a Dunlin were at Hollowell Reservoir.

A patrolling Osprey was visible from the dam at Pitsford Reservoir at 12.30pm and a juvenile Marsh Harrier was hunting over fields between Hanging Houghton and Scaldwell villages this morning. An afternoon walk at Harrington Airfield was sufficient to find a Marsh Harrier and two or three Common Redstarts. A Hobby was escorted by a flock of Swallows in the Brampton Valley below Brixworth.

In the Nene Valley there was a Caspian Gull, a Marsh Harrier, a Green Sandpiper, two or three Common Sandpipers, four Common Snipe and a Wigeon at Summer Leys LNR.

Three Black-tailed Godwits were at Clifford Hill Pits and a Wood Sandpiper and a Greenshank were at the north end of the Titchmarsh reserve at Thrapston Pits.
